The ascendant is the degree of the sign rising over the eastern horizon. It is a very important point in astrology and is the very foundation of the personality.

Aries Ascendant: There is a strong desire to win. These people have great assets of energy and are constantly stimulated to action. They want to be noticed and there may be a tendency of ruthlessness. They have a happy sense of humor and an innate awareness. They are very adaptable to any environment.

Taurus Ascendant: There is a strong inpulse to acquire. These people like to see around them material proof of their success. They have a great need for routine and stability. They want to feel secure. They can be very stubborn and possessive.

Gemini Ascendant: These people want to keep their feet firmly planted on the ground. They have a tendency to question anything put before them and may have a hard time believing things without hardcore proof. There is a warm, passionate enthusiasm and optimism. They will always want to challenge other people. There is a strong independent streak and there may be nervous tension.

Cancer Ascendant: There is a great satisfaction from caring for others. There is a very protective attitude present. These people give out an enormous amount of energy and vitality to those people in their inner circle of friends. They have very strong self-defensive systems, but they have to desire to explore their own personalities.

Leo Ascendant: There is a strong organiztional ability. There is also a likelihood of pomposity and the thought that they know better than anyone else. There is also a strong desire to succeed. There is also a very creative nature. There may not be a willingness to face up to the negative sides of the character.

Virgo Ascendant: These people are well integrated psychologically. There may be a high tendency for worry and criticism and this may turned toward the self. These people often need to work hard to get a reasonable degree of self-confidence. In relationships, an inner warmth and sensitivity may be shown and tender, loving sentiments may be characteristic.

Libra Ascendant: There is a strong need to relate and this person may rush into relationships. There is a tendency to fall in love with love. These people also have a tendency to ignore personal faults rather than recognize and accept them. Worry or tension rarely affects these people.

Scorpio Ascendant: There will be a strong sense of purpose and a need to question everything, along with a tendency to be secretive. There is remarkable potential here. These people generally feel a strong need to know themselves and their ability of self-analysis is remarkable. They, however, don't care to reveal themselves to others.

Sagittarius Ascendant: There is a powerful need for challenge. Self-knowledge intrigues them and they are willing to assess and accept their shortcomings. They may miss on details and will have a lack of thoroughness. They have a strong intellectual capacity and can develop their own philosophies.

Capricorn Ascendant: Their self-confidence is wavering: one minute they think they rule the world, the next, they doubt all of their abilities. They are confident in some areas of life, but extremely nervous in other areas. They have an inability to see themselves clearly and they may underestimate their own achievements.

Aquarius Ascendant: There is a great need for independance and the personality may appear distant. These must recognize the difference between independance and isolation. They have a kindness and an appreciation for other people. They are very eager for self-knowledge and can be very stubborn and resist the realiztion that they should change.

Pisces Ascendant: These people do valuble work for the world. They, however, often do not get the recognition and praise that they deserve. They may have a tendency towards deceitfulness. They are very imaginative. They may not try to discover what makes them truly tick, instead they may invent a persona and do their best to fit into it.
